PRE-SCHOOL SAMPLE LESSON PLAN

CHANGES TO CLASSROOM:

BLOCKS – Add some bird books.

DRAMATIC PLAY – Add binoculars, fun hats, butterfly catchers, and bird books. 

TOYS AND GAMES – 

ART – Binoculars and Eggs

LIBRARY – Bird books.

DISCOVERY – Go on a walk

SAND AND WATER – Put in different kinds of feathers.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT – Add CDs with fun dance music.

COOKING – Add measuring cups, spoons, etc. to play area.

OUTDOORS – Listen for bird sounds. 

THINGS TO DO LIST:

Borrow binoculars from parents and other classrooms.  Get butterfly catchers from other classroom.  Ask parents for egg carton donations. 

GROUP TIME:

Monday – Play the ABC game.

Tuesday – Talk about birds and show them pictures of different kinds of birds.

Wednesday – Talk about soft touches and how birds are soft.

Thursday – Play the shape game.

Friday – Dance to music going fast and slow. 

STORY TIME:

Monday – Read Are you my Mother?

Tuesday – Read Kookaburra

Wednesday – Do a flannel board story of The Biggest Feather

Thursday – Read The Best Nest

Friday – Read Allouette 

SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES:

Monday – Go for a walk around the playground to find birds.

Tuesday – Play Duck Duck Goose.

Wednesday – Make Peanut Butter Pinecone bird feeders

Thursday – Dance to the Chicken Dance

Friday – Go for a walk to the pond area to listen for different bird sounds. 

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:

Monday – Practice cutting out a shape of a bird and then painting it.  Hang in classroom.

Tuesday – Make a bird book.  Practice coloring with markers and crayons.

Wednesday – Make bird eggs out of egg cartons.

Thursday – Make binoculars out of toilet paper tubes.

Friday – Decorate our binoculars from Thursday.  Go for a walk with our binoculars to look for birds. 

SPANISH/SIGN LANGUAGE:

Monday – Learn the sign for I love you!

Tuesday – Learn the sign for bird.

Wednesday – Learn Spanish word Parajo = bird

Thursday – Review signs and Spanish words.

Friday – Practice saying colors in Spanish.
